The Prado Walk development site in Riverside has been dormant for so long, passersby have grown used to it.

But there’s finally some construction activity at Riverside Avenue and Barrs Street.

At least four years ago, a mixed-use project with retail, offices and condos was born. A Prado Walk sign popped up, but not much else followed. After a while, the existing buildings were demolished, but then … nothing.

So what happened?

The housing market crashed.
